A portion of longitudinal wall was stripped of its brick layer to have a sample inspection. Also, only minor bulging is noticed on other longitudinal walls. The condition of the concrete there was found to be satisfactory. Hence major RCC repair was limited to middle wall only.
8.0 Results The walls were refurbished to its original shape and new acid resistant brick lining was constructed over it on both faces. The pit was made operational accordingly. The pit is in service till date without any major issues. 9.0 Conclusions • Complete dismantling of civil structures is the easiest approach but not rational, many a times. • Localised repair can salvage a damaged structure if executed properly and all distress locations are refurbished. • NDE is a proven technique for optimizing repair jobs. • Emphasizing the need for routine inspection of Civil structures in severe/corrosive environments 10.0 Acknowledgements M/s Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd 11 .
