Hoop, meridional and von mises stress in the 4.2mm cylindrical shell and dome at proof and ultimate pressure are shown in Fig. 2 and 3, respectively. Sufficient margins exist in the tank at proof and ultimate pressures. With a mismatch of 0.45 mm at the circumferential weld between cylindrical shell and fore end/aft end dome, the meridional stress is expected to raise from 412.5MPa to 536.2MPa at proof pressure and from 494.6MPa to 643MPa at the ultimate pressure. With this stress into consideration, the effective stress at the weld was found to be 725MPa at proof pressure and 869.4MPa at the ultimate pressure.
