4. Results for Fracture Experiments on Pipes The images acquired from these experiments were analyzed manually, to obtain the crack growth related to diffrenet loading values. The analysis of the images was carried out using MS Windows in-built image-application ‘paint’. The images are opened in paint-application and pixel are noted for the crack tip and nearby grid points. Using the caliberation factor, the present location of crack tip and consequently, crack growth is calculated. The error of measurement of crack length by the this approach was found to be less than 3% with respect to actual crack growth measured manually with a thread. These error may be due to combination of different factors, like camera noise lens distortion, inaccuracy in the grid marking, other manual errors, etc.
