Fig. 5. Quantitative evaluation of operational fatigue life.
If the situation is not severe (red or green), e.g. the S-N curve of the structural node is of good quality, but the load spectrum is aggressive, a detailed calculation of the fatigue life should be carried out, based on a carefully determined S-N curve and a sufficiently representative operating load spectrum, as presented Kepka and Kepka Jr. (2018). 3. Conclusions The paper presents a possible approach to the creation and use of a knowledge base to support the development of bodyworks of buses, trolleybuses and battery buses from the point of view of their sufficient service fatigue life. The knowledge base contains the results of fatigue tests of welded joints of bus bodies from a number of research and development projects implemented in cooperation with industrial enterprises. The database is further supplemented with results from service stress measurements of these structural nodes. During the development of a new vehicle, it is possible to qualitatively compare the fatigue strength of the structural nodes of the new bodywork as well as the aggressiveness of their loading.
