parametric study. Based on the FE study, it can be concluded that in general, cracks at the roller chamfer lead to minor risk of RCF failure (this applies for the rollers which profile was simulated in the current study). Certain risk was predicted for the cracks of horizontal orientation, however as the contact load was switched from the extreme to the moderate conditions, this risk vanished. This means that precautions should be taken during the product inspection: the ceramic rollers containing cracks of critical geometry should not be used in the applications where the critical loading conditions are expected.
