As shown in Fig. 2, three pieces of general-purpose PEEK mesh (#25, (CLEVER CO.,LTD.), thickness 0.13 mm, 30 mm square) were inserted between the adherends to form an ED. Four sets of two CFRTP laminates and three PEEK sheets were prepared, and the welding time was changed to 3 and 5 seconds, then welded twice each, named Specimen No. 1~4. CFRTP was successfully bonded to all four specimens.

Compression shear tests were conducted on Specimen No. 1~4 bonded by ultrasonic welding. In this test, one side of the specimen was fixed by a jig and a load was applied to the other side, as shown in Fig. 3 (a). The jig used in this test is shown in Fig. 3(b). An Instron (10 kN) universal testing machine was used for this test. A 20 mm displacement was applied to the load cell at 1 mm/min and the displacement-load was measured.
