Totally 3 batches of SLM material AlCuMg1.5Ni were produced. The quality of these batches is very different depending on quality of metal powder and a position of individual specimen on the building platform. The best fatigue resistance had material from 2 nd batch, which was produced from new powder in one built, nevertheless only 4 samples of 12 had sufficient quality for testing. The worst fatigue resistance had material from 3 rd batch, which was produced from recycled powder. The recycling is not effective and should not be used for this material. Analysis of AE records shows that all materials had same 3 fatigue stages – pre-initiation, initiation and post initiation stage. The stages ratio of SLM and extruded material is different. In case of extruded material, the pre initiation stage takes most of the fatigue lifetime, but in case of SLM material, the longest stage is post-initiation. Along with fratography study this results indicate different mechanism of crack propagation. In case of extruded material it is mainly by changes in the microstructure and, in case of SLM material, it is by connection between the void or production defects. Comparison with alloy AlSi10Mg produce by SLM indicate that the alloy AlCuMg1.5Ni is not suitable for SLM technology. Alloys with chemical composition close to casting or eutectic alloys and influence of heat treatment should be studied in the future.
