4. Conclusive remarks The handling of the information needed for the preservation and maintenance of heritage structures through a HBIM implementation is a trend topic of the scientific community working in the field of CH conservation. Currently, no commercial software package is capable of fulfilling all the requirements of a 3D modelling and semantic data management for such heritage structures. As a consequence, only a few applications of the HBIM are effectively employed as information and management support of heritage structures. The research project CHARMING PISTOIA aims to contribute to fill this gap establishing, through a three steps approach, a smart Digital Twin, i.e., a numerical model reproducing the structural behavior of the physical system. This paper summarized the goal of the project by discussing the proposed three steps approach, the expected results and the illustrative case study that will be operated as application. Acknowledgements The CHARMING PISTOIA project is financially supported by Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio Pistoia e Pescia that is gratefully acknowledged. The authors also gratefully acknowledge the foundation “Friends of Florence” (www.friendsofflorence.org) that financially supported the monitoring system. The funders had no role in study design, data collection and analysis, decision to publish, or preparation of the manuscript.
