5. Conclusions
The elaborations carried out highlight the benefits given by the presence of the floor connections used as anti seismic garrisons which, based on the measurements made on the L'Aquila buildings, were made by means of steel chains or wooden elements that guaranteed an average damage reduction of about 50% even on masonry of poor quality. With reference to masonry, it should be pointed out that, as far as was seen during the emergency phases and during the reconstruction of historic centers, this was not subject to disintegrative phenomena except marginally. Greater was evaluated the reduction of damage, up to 60%, due to the box-like behavior of the masonry attributable to an effective connection at intersections. However, in what case the quantification of the "only" connection proved to be complex: in fact, the benefits appear to be strongly conditioned by the quality of the masonry and the consequent increase in the resistant surface due to the solidarization between the males and the masonry intersections. In the light of what has been represented, we confirm the high efficiency of tie rod or chain installations, which, at very low execution costs, produce significant damage reductions even on poor quality masonry not subject to disintegration. Greater caution should be taken with reference to masonry intersection connections. The benefits assessed in the case of boxy behavior of construction are not easily replicated by the implementation of the most popular interventions in the professional field, such as, for example, reinforced perforations (on good quality masonry) or banding at masonry intersections made with reinforced plasters. In fact, said interventions alone do not produce either a general improvement in the masonry strength characteristics or the consequent increase in the resistant surface area due to the solidarization between males and masonry intersections (they do not effectively prevent slippage between disconnected males and intersections), conditions that underlie the elaborations made.
