failures, particularly in BCJs, were very important in limiting the buildings capacity at Severe Damage. A local strengthening strategy has been designed and analyzed to solve joints shear failures. It was noted that such strategy can be very useful in increasing PGA capacity, except when compressive joint failures prematurely occur, as in the 4-storey building analyzed herein. A preliminary estimation of cost intervention showed that such strategy can easily be covered by the current government contributions for seismic risk reduction, thus leading to an important reduction of casualties after earthquakes. However, it will be important in future works to assess how much such intervention can reduce the expected annual losses, since no changes in lateral stiffness or infills displacement capacity is introduced. The explicit modelling of masonry infills and shear failures in these analyses will be paramount.
