5. Conclusions This paper has presented the results of three experimental campaigns performed at the STRENGTH laboratory of the University of Salerno on a large-scale two-storey building mock-up composed of two equal frames extracted from a more complex reference structure. In the first phase, the structure has been equipped with RBSs, in the second phase with FREEDAM connections, and in the third phase with dissipative double split tee joints. The campaigns consisted in performing pseudo-dynamic tests adopting a sequence of five accelerograms. Hereinafter, the main conclusions about the results of the three experimental campaigns are summarized: • while the mock-up with traditional full-strength RBS connections collapsed because of the brittle fracture that occurred to the welds or the reduced section of some joints, in the case of the structure with X-shaped T-stub and FREEDAM connections, instead, no damages have been observed except for the hourglass T-stubs and the wearing of the friction pads; • the comparison among the results of the experimental campaigns has shown that the structure equipped with RBS connections generally has exhibited higher base shear and lower peak roof displacements; furthermore, the three analyzed connection typologies generally have shown the same energy dissipation capacity even though the friction devices have the merit to limit the structural stress distribution; • the partial-strength strategy has shown to be very effective in ensuring high energy dissipation capacity and limiting the damage only to the dissipative fuses that can be easily substituted at the end of severe seismic events.
