Under both ‘free’ and ‘restrained’ rocking condition s for each façade, a capacity curve for each SDOF system was defined through nonlinear kinematic analysis, providing the load factor activating the mechanism and its evolution till overturning. It was observed that frictional resistances strongly affect the acceleration capacity related to LS0, which is about 3-5 times larger than that of the free wall, while, for the considered aspect ratios of the masonry units, they do not influence the maximum capacity displacements (LS1 and LS2), which are, indeed, coincident with those obtained for the free rocking condition. Finally, the paper identified some reliable geometric parameters aimed to assess homogenous classes of vulnerability with reference to the onset of the mechanism in the analysed façades. The capacity curves obtained for the 14 façades in the case of free rocking façades were, indeed, analysed in order to identify three vulnerability classes: high, medium and low. Such a classification is only based on the vertical slenderness of the façade. Conversely, in the case of restrained condition, the definition of vulnerability classes requires to fix variability ranges for both the vertical slenderness of sidewalls and the horizontal slenderness of the façade. Further developments of the research will be focused on the implementation of analytical fragility curves aimed to carry out comparisons with empirical/observational curves available in the literature.
