With reference to the probabilistic response model used, it is possible to describe the probability distribution of observing a damage level lower than a fixed value d , given a seismic intensity i , by means of the Cumulative Density Function (CDF) provided by the expression F D | I (d|i)=P[D a b Fig. 3. Expected conditional distribution of damage given intensity i: (a) CDF and (b) PDF. 3.2. The subset of schools located into the seismic crater of the Marche region With the aim of estimating the parameters, , of the damage model, the subset of schools located into the seismic crater of the central Italy sequence is only considered. The definition of seismic crater is provided by the Italian government, and it refers to a geographic area located in the nearby of the epicentres of the mainshocks of the 2016 seismic sequence. Most of the buildings located in that area suffered relevant damages, therefore, they are more significant for the evaluation of the parameters of the models rather than those located outside of this zone. Nevertheless, the experienced by those buildings vary within the range 0.02 g-0.29 g. It is also worth to observe that buildings located into the seismic crater could benefit of the funding provided by the Authorities for repairing, retrofit and/or reconstruction works.
