varied depending on the notch radius r (see Tab. 1 and Fig. 2). Fatigue tests were performed on specimens with notch radii r = 0 . 1; 0 . 2; 0 . 8; 3 mm. Fully reversed push-pull loading was applied (stress ratio R = − 1). The fatigue data were approximated using Wo¨hler curves (see Fig. 3). Axial stress distributions were obtained using finite element models (see Fig. 4).
