which limits the scope of the proposed method. The choice of material for the study of the speed of sound has one of the most important values, on which the reliability of measurement results depends. The type of steel rolling also plays a great role. Until the 1970s, hot-rolled and normalized steels were used in the construction of gas pipelines. Due to the anisotropy of the structural properties of steel of various types of rolled products, the propagation of sound waves and their absorption by grains, grain boundaries, and also due to the influence of internal microstrains will have a significant difference, which, therefore, creates difficulties in detecting various effects. In the case of a specific gas pipeline, there was no such problem, due to the well-known data on the pipe of the monitored section of the gas pipeline and pre-arranged office work. For the wide application of this method, the researcher should know the correlation dependences of the studied parameters depending on the steel grade of the pipe of the object being diagnosed. 4. Conclusion The proposed method will improve the efficiency of collecting information on structural reliability, to assess in the process of technical diagnostics the degree of metal degradation of the pipe without conducting mechanical tests and making samples, to reduce the material costs of conducting scheduled preventive repairs to pipelines.
