a) b) Figure 3. a) The load application detail suggested by R66 standard regulation and b) Specification of residual space according to standard regulation of R66. According to the ECE R66 regulation (En L 2011), the following consideration must be taken into account: • The magnitude displacement on the profiles locating in the side of loading should not exceed a maximum allowable displacement defined as = 150 ( ); • The structure must be loaded at a certain magnitude through several increments and then the displacement should be monitored on the corresponding profiles; • If any profile reaches upon loading, the analysis must be terminated; • The force/displacement curve must be thereby extracted on the loading position. The ultimate displacement and the gradual load magnitude, in which was reached, are identified as and , respectively. In addition, when force/displacement curve is extracted on the loading position, must be identified. Afterwards, it is feasible to acquire the total energy of the body section absorbed upon loading. It can be calculated from the area under the force/displacement curve as shown in Figure 4.

Figure 4. Absorbed energy for the body section, derived from the measured load-displacement curve. From the plotted Force/displacement curve, the actual energy absorbed by the body section ( ) shall be expressed. According to the ECE R66, the body section passes the test, if: ≥ (3) Regarding the energy, the total energy ( ) to be absorbed by the superstructure is calculated by: = 0.75 × × × ℎ (4) where: • = , unladen kerb mass of the vehicle if there are no occupant restraints; or, , total effective vehicle mass when occupant restraints are fitted;
