The results reported in fig. 6 shows the carbon dioxide concentration, the carbonation profile and the crack pattern. The first raw reports the results at the time when the cracks nucleates while the second raw shows the complete carbonation corrosion cracking phenomenon. The crack pattern is actively correlated by the evolution of the carbonation profile as damage nucleates and evolves towards the side from which the concrete is affected first by the carbonation process, as these are the portion of the reinforcement bars which suffer the earlier formation of rust deposits. Table 3. Material parameters . Parameters Values Concrete elastic modulus (E c ) 31500 MPa Concrete Poisson modulus (υ c ) 0.2 Concrete uniaxial traction strength (σ cT ) 2.15 MPa Steel elastic modulus (E s ) 210000 MPa Steel Poisson modulus (υ s ) 0.3 Carbonated concrete elastic modulus (E CaCO3 ) 35000 MPa Carbonated concrete Poisson modulus (υ CaCO3 ) 0.2 Carbonated concrete uniaxial traction strength (σ CaCO3,T ) 4 MPa
Fig. 6 Results for the double side diffusion test. The first raw shows the results at the crack initiation instant while the second raw shows the results at the end of the simulation. a) carbon dioxide concentration; b) carbonation profile; c) crack pattern
