Experimental study on the regularities of inhomogeneous deformation and the processes of macroscopic localization of the plastic flow due to the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect was carried out. Using the digital image correlation technique the data on the initiation and propagation of the strain bands were obtained. Experimental data were obtained that show the effect of short-term stops and non-monotonic loading on the regularities of inelastic deformation of the Al-Mg alloy when the PLC effect manifests itself. Short stops decrease the level of critical strain when the jerky flow starts. Non-monotonic tests led to a change in the type of the PLC effect and a change in the regularities of the spatial-time inhomogeneity of plastic flow. © 2021 The Authors. Published by ELSEVIER B.V. Introduction Real conditions of operation and complex external thermomechanical influences determine the operation of the loaded elements of critical structures in the conditions of a complex stress state and under non-monotonic loading. There is a need to create the scientific basis for predicting the deformation ability and the limiting state of metals and alloys, taking into account the phenomena of spatial heterogeneity and temporary instability of plastic deformation IGF26 - 26th International Conference on Fracture and Structural Integrity Influence of the non-monotonic loading and short stops on the regularities of the jerky flow in the Al-Mg alloy Tatyana Tretyakova, Mikhail Tretyakov* Center of Experimental Mechanics of Perm National Research Polytecnic University, 29, Komsomolskiy Ave., Perm, 614990, Russia Abstract The aim of the paper is to investigate the influence of the non-monotonic loading and short stops on the spatial-time inhomogeneity du to the jerky flow in the Al-Mg alloy.
