Dependencies of the maximum relative stress on the number of defects are qualitatively the same in the cases of linearly elastic and elastic-plastic models. Nevertheless, the stress concentration in the case of the elastic-plastic model is about 40% lower than in the case of the pure elastic model. The maximum values of stresses are observed in the zones of sharp edges formed between the notches which slightly overlap or almost touch – both for random and periodical distributions of multiple defects, as well as for only two defects. The distance between neighbouring defects is a significant but not the only factor affecting the maximum stresses on the surface of pressure vessels.
