The maximum K was always reached at the edge of pittings for all the considered geometries. For all the defects where the maximum stress was observed, adjacent notches either slightly overlapped or were at a very close distance resulting in a sharp edge (Fig. 4). These results are consistent with those obtained in the papers by other authors (for example, Sedova et al., 2021; Wang et al., 2020, Ahmed et al., 2019), where the maximum stress appeared at the intersection of the two notch edges as well. As seen from Figure 3, the average maximum normal stress changes non-monotonously as n grows (there is a slight local minimum for n ∈ [200, 250]). Comparing these results with the results obtained in the framework of linearly elastic model by Sedova et al. (2021), one can see that the dependencies of the average maximum stress on the number are qualitatively the same. However, the stress concentration in the elastic-plastic model is about 40% lower than in the case of the pure elastic model.
