[Words in Spanish by Octavio Paz.] Acknowledgements

This paper was presented as Keynote Plenary Lecture in the 3 rd International Conference on Structural Integrity (ICSI 2019) held in Madeira in September 2019. The author warmly acknowledges the kind invitation by the two chairpersons of the conference, Pedro Moreira and Paulo Tavares, as well as the generous and kind introduction when the talk was delivered. A short version of the aforesaid article was presented in the 1 st Mediterranean Fracture Conference (MedFract1) held in Athens in February 2020. The author warmly acknowledges Francesco Iacoviello and Ermioni Pasiou ( Noni ) for the friendly environment during the conference, as well as the kind and efficient management of the manuscripts after the scientific meeting. The final paper is published in the framework of the 1 st Virtual European Conference on Fracture (VECF1) organised by the European Structural Integrity (ESIS) during July 2020. The author warmly acknowledges the chairman of the conference and ESIS President, Francesco Iacoviello, for the kind and efficient management of the conference and the proceedings (Procedia Structural Integrity). The article was written during the full summer vacation of the University of Salamanca (Spain) in August 2020. The author wishes to warmly dedicate it to his wife Lourdes Menárguez, his daughter Ana Lym Toribio and his son Juan Sun Toribio for the love, patience and support they have always provided and for very joyful moments between the rigorous and exhausting scientific work.
