4. Summary

Damage evaluation on the interfaces between acetabular cup with porous simulated bone as well as within the porous simulated bone by cyclic compression was experimentally observed using using Infrared thermography(IR) and Acoustic emission(AE). Temperature changes detected by IR could indicate normal displacement of the acetabular cup and AE signals relating to interfacial damages also suggested rotational displacement of the acetabule cups. The result clearly demonstrated that the mechanical factor in aseptic loosening, which may induce displacements by degradation of fixaion, can also be a considerable one in determining how and when the loosening occurs.
