• The stress intensity factors in mode I where evaluated numerically along the specimen neck section, taking as crack initiation two close pits induced by pre-corrosion. • Further physical and numerical investigations should be carried out in order to assess the quantitative effects of pits in the corroded surfaces, in particular the interaction effects of close pits associated with crack initiation and propagation.
