4. Conclusions Cyclic potentiodynamic polarization of 316L stainless steel rebars in a slightly alkaline electrolyte containing Ca(OH) 2 , fly ash (FA, 0-25% of the dry mixture) and an acid rain simulating solution revealed very low corrosion current densities, true passivity and non-susceptibility to localized corrosion (10-20 wt.% FA). The corrosion resistance increased with FA increasing (up to 20 wt.%). However, this trend was reversed at 25 wt.% FA content due to agglomeration of FA particles. Partial replacement of cement with FA did not affect the tensile properties of concrete embedded 316L and 304L rebars before or after 2 m of salt spraying, besides a slight decrease in elongation after 2 m (0 and 25 wt.% FA). 316L and 304L embedded rebars performed similarly on tensile testing after salt spraying, a promising conclusion towards the possibility of replacement of 304L by 316L in restoration works.
