As previously mentioned, the valve body is made of cast steel, which rises the probability of defects like gas porosity, shrinkage, mould material, pouring metal and metallurgical defects. Such defects may result in appearance of the cracks within the valve bodies. Cracks located in areas with the greatest stresses will have the fastest growth. Therefore, the crack is modelled in the area of the valve body with maximum stress concentration (Fig. 3).
