Recoater streaks occur when physical contact between the blade and the part causes mechanical damage, specifically chipping of the recoater blade. This results in longitudinal streaks along the recoating path. A similar defect occurs when larger debris, such as detached support fragments, becomes trapped, typically in brush-type recoaters, resulting in similar streaks.

Missing powder may appear during the printing of complex geometries with rapidly changing cross-sections, such as the opening and closing of cellular support structures, or at the edges of complex features.
