The STREAM (Surface Treatment for Additive Manufacturing) project was implemented within the EUREKA program in cooperation with the Portuguese experts from the research organization INEGI and the leading manufacturing company QUANTAL. The impacts of postprocessing on various properties of printed materials were investigated. These included mechanical treatment, heat treatment and laser shock peening. QUANTAL presented the findings from the solution at the Hannover Fair 2023, see Fig. 2.

The idea of a comprehensive international project with the acronym PATRIOTS (3D printing and thermal spraying as complementary technologies for preparation of components with functional surfaces), as shown in Figure 3, was unfortunately not accepted within the Horizon Europe program. However, in a modified form and within a smaller consortium, some of the ideas were resolved within the M-ERA-NET program.
