3.4. Microstructure analysis Fig. 7 presents the SEM images and corresponding EDS elemental maps of the as-built and heat treated specimens. In both conditions, Al is observed as the dominant matrix phase, while Si is distributed within the Al matrix in discrete regions. The Mg distribution appears generally uniform; however, a slight reduction of Mg intensity within the Al matrix is observed for the heat-treated specimen. This behavior can be attributed to the formation of Mg 2 Si precipitates during heat treatment by FC, which promotes elemental redistribution without introducing additional phases, in agreement with the XRD results.
