The urban fabric of the historical center of Cosenza is fairly homogeneous: nevertheless, it is possible to identify certain characteristics of the buildings in different areas of the center (Fig. 2).

In general, there are both historic stately buildings and more typical examples of social housing, the former consisting of larger floor areas, the latter more modest. In particular, the upper areas of the historic center, such as Via Giostra Vecchia and Via Padolisi, are characterised by patrician buildings with three or four storeys and fairly large floor areas (Fig. 3). In other areas, for example towards the centre of the historic district, up to Corso Telesio, there are both more modest buildings, in architectural terms and in relation to the size of the floor areas, consisting of small courtyards and typical external access staircases, and important stately buildings, in which the imprint of Spanish
domination can be glimpsed in the details (Fig. 2, Fig. 3). The number of floors varies in all cases between 3 and 4.
