3. Case Study Structures and Isolation Design This study investigates the seismic performance of three-dimensional base-isolated reinforced concrete (RC) buildings with 3 and 9 stories, chosen as representative case studies. Both structures feature a regular rectangular plan measuring 30 m × 15 m, with uniform inter-storey heights of 3.2 m and span lengths of 5 m in both directions (Fig. 4). The 3-story building is composed of beams and rectangular columns measuring 30 cm × 40 cm, and square columns of 40 cm × 40 cm. For the 9-story configuration, member dimensions vary along the height to reflect typical design practice: beams and rectangular columns are 30 cm × 60 cm for the bottom three stories, 30 cm × 50 cm for the middle three, and 30 cm × 40 cm for the upper three stories. Square columns follow a similar tapering: 50 cm × 50 cm, 45 cm × 45 cm, and 40 cm × 40 cm from base to top, respectively. Each structure is analysed at four fault distances (0, 5, 15, and 30 km), resulting in a total of eight distinct configurations.
