2.1. Historical notes on the building and historical seismicity
The building was built by the Jesuits to be used as a college and should have been completed with the construction of a new church. Works began in 1666 and in 1687 the college was opened and had a central courtyard layout, typical of monastic or collegiate structures. The city of Sulmona has been affected by numerous significant seismic events over the last few centuries, Fig. 2 shows the most significant events among the 60 that have occurred from 1350 to today. The events identified mostly fall in central Italy and the Umbria-Marche Apennines, other more significant ones are located near the city of Sulmona (Maiella and Valle Peligna).
