The second is to show how certain artefacts have a resistance capacity to seismic actions that is not intercepted by the calculation models most widely used in professional practice. 1. Foreword For monumental buildings, interventions must be respectful of the asset in terms of both the architectural part, the structural part, and the decorative apparatus. Therefore, the restoration of the historical-artistic apparatuses and the consolidation of the structures are interventions that must be designed in an integrated manner, and for their protection, it is necessary to deepen the knowledge of the structural interaction in order to achieve effective protection from seismic risk. In general, the heritage of existing masonry buildings, and in particular that of Italy's historic centres, is composed of different types of construction ranging from monumental buildings to residential buildings organised in building aggregates or isolated buildings made of different materials according to the period of construction and geographical Abstract The topics addressed in this paper concern some interventions for the seismic improvement of masonry buildings of cultural interest with reference also to the interaction between the structure and the decorative apparatus with a twofold objective.
