3.3. Interfacial Stability

The micro-beam testing pointed to the interface stability. The micro-beam failure occured unexpectedly inside of the ceramic particle and not along the interface. Most ceramic particles proved to be internally fractured by micro cracks already after HPT. Nevertheless, there is still a large internal particle cohesion due to a form-fit entanglement which was also shown in nanoindentation measurements (not part of the paper). However, the SE images after fracture elucidates a strong bonding at the interface itself.
