Since the silicone obturator should support the laryngoscope during intubation, material with higher initial stiffness is preferable to withstand the pressure exerted by laryngoscope while protecting the soft tissues of patient’s oral cavity. Therefore, Zetaplus and Elite HD+ Putty appear to be preferable choices over the softer materials due to their higher initial stiffness, lower variability of mechanical properties as well as their minimal porosity.
