Fig. 2. Total force acting at the right edge of the top domain as a function of prescribed displacement u for various values of the parameter r .

Fig. 3. Normal t n (solid) and tangential t s (dashed) interface stresses (left) and damage parameter  (right) for the case r = 8.5 mm for various instants of load determined by u , c.f. Fig. 2. The interface length measure l is introduced in Fig. 1.

Graphs in Fig. 3 contain contact stresses (normal and tangential components) an a distribution of the damage variable at selected instants corresponding to: the local maximum of the force, the common local minimum for all force curves, debonding of whole interface with the exception of the contact zones (at the next local minimum), degradation of the connection between the materials (only contact remains). Particularly in the last instant, the peak of maximal compressive stress is cut off to have a better insight to the stress distribution in all other instants. The graphs for damage variable document the extent of the interface crack zone, some reference points of the interface length measure are mentioned in Fig. 1. The related stresses fit within the aforementioned limit value: either for sliding (right end of the interface ( > 134.9 mm ) or top part of the connector) or opening (left end of the interface ( < 18.8 mm) or right part of the connector ( 95.6 mm < < 134.9 mm )). The debonding process can be observed in deformations, too. The instants of Fig. 3 are also used in Fig. 4 (except the first one) to see the beginning of debonding at u = 0.1  m by sliding, initiation of debonding at the right part of the connector at u = 0.14  m, opening left part at u = 0.3  m, and (almost) total decohesion at u = 0.64  m.
