geometric combinations. These combinations, shown in Figure 2 (b-f), differed in their shape and arrangement, allowing the effect of geometry on overall performance to be investigated. For each of these five geometric combinations, an analysis was then performed for all three materials examined. Figure 2 (a) shows a realistically printed 3D element from the original geometry.

The newly invented geometric variants of 3D print joints have the same number of holes for the pins transmitting shear forces, but their location is different. Two wooden prisms are inserted into the joints and anchored using steel pins (see Fig. 1). The length of all samples is 220 mm, width and height 63 mm. The internal space for the wooden prism is 51 mm by 51 mm, length 100 mm. The internal solid wall of the samples is therefore 20 mm thick. The holes have a diameter of 8 mm.
