Interferograms reflecting deformation response to through hole drilling in the dimple centre of S_3 coupon are shown in Fig. 7. The obtained fringe patterns are characterized by excess density, but nothing can be done about this situation. However, threshold values of fringe order difference in both directions can be reliably extracted, namely, u N –30.0 and v N –30.0 fringes. This estimation provides the lower limit of values of principal residual stress components.
