according to UNE-EN ISO 6892-1 [International Organization for Standardization (2010)], with its basic material properties shown in Table 1. Vickers hardness measured on polished samples is also included in Table 1.

2.2. Geometry Dog-bone specimens were dimensioned according to ISO 1099 [ISO (2017)] and grinded with silicon carbide (SiC) papers before testing. As seen in Fig. 1, the specimens were extracted from a 35 mm thick plate in such a way that the loading axis was transverse to the rolling direction.

2.3. Specimen precorrosion Prior to CF testing, specimens were subjected to localized precorrosion, inducing the formation of a crack precursor defect near the center of the reduced section (Fig. 2). Artificial corrosion pits were generated through immersion in FeCl 3 solution for 144 hours, according to ASTM G48-11 [American Society for Testing and Materials (2020)].
