Fig. 4 shows stress distribution according to von Mises in the contact area between the rolling element and the half-plane as a result of Hertzian pressure. Fig. 5 shows shear stress distribution in the contact area between the rolling element and the half-plane and alternating shear stress at the crack before and after crack rollover.
