Abstract The paper presents the process of welding automation of a door frame structure intended for public rail vehicles. It covers a description of robotic station together with its technical aspects. In this study, a methodology for selecting welds in relation to applicable standards, including their validation, is described. The publication includes also macro examination pictures which show the defects occurred during the welding process as well as describes the measures taken to optimise the welding parameters. The findings summarized in the final report made it possible for the company concerned to allow the developed robotic welding process for mass production. The author also presented the next steps to be taken in order to determine the fatigue strength of the welding nodes in the structure in question. © 2025 The Authors. Published by ELSEVIER B.V. Introduction The production within the industry strives for continuous optimization, primarily due to the ever-increasing customer demands for comfort, higher speed of modern rail vehicles, and rising quality requirements. Research on the digitization of business processes in the intelligent economy indicates that automation can significantly enhance production efficiency and quality [1]. On the other hand, the steadily increasing production costs, driven by rising © 2025 The Authors. Published by ELSEVIER B.V.
