Abstract This contribution studies a stress state in a detail of the tension flange of the stringer at the point of connection of the cross member in the steel part of the steel-concrete bridge. The uFEM software was used for the numerical calculation of the analysed structural element using the finite element method. The model combines two phases, one focusing on the global analysis of the structure and the other focusing on the critical detail of the structure. Obtained results are used as basis for decision on use of simplified analytical approach for investigation of fatigue behavior of the studied detail of the load-bearing system of the analyzed highway steel-concrete bridge. © 2024 The Authors. 1. Introduction Steel and composite (concrete-steel) bridge structures always include details which are prone to fatigue failure, e.g. [1], [2]. Many of engineering approaches use analytical formulae to study failure behavior. The main limitation of analytical approach is that in necessarily requires idealization or simplification of studied problem. In real engineering
