However, al though the classification of the ASPI approach defines a “ Medium-High ” defect level, according to ASPI, the presence of defects on critical elements results in an immediate passage to the “ High ” defect class, consistently with MIT. 6. Preliminary conclusions This paper aims to provide a preliminary discussion on a comparative analysis between the Italian guidelines for the risk classification, safety assessment, and monitoring of existing bridges and the ASPI manual. The discussion has been focused on several A16 viaducts made of Prestressed Reinforced Concrete (PRC) assumed as case-studies. Results given by the MIT and the ASPI approaches are consistent. However, some inhomogeneity arises, as for the classification of the Defect Level. Further implementation of such procedure at the national level is strongly desirable, and it could help in building a homogenous bridge inventory, which could also be openly accessible to road users.
