known. Unfortunately, the residual stress level depends on the manufacturing process and microstructural variability. At the very least, a larger and more significant sample of wires and strands needs to be collected and tested to obtain a reasonable range of residual stress variation depending on factors such as year of manufacture, manufacturing process (if known), level of degradation, etc. The only conclusion that can be drawn from the executed tests, is that strands tend to have tensile residual stresses, while wires have compressive residual stresses. The reason why strands show tensile residual stresses could be due to the twisting manufacturing phase, which induces high tensile stresses that cannot be relieved by the stabilization final procedure.
