An external hard part of coating is considered as a piecewise-homogeneous plate, the internal soft layer is subjected to Winkler's hypothesis of the stress and displacement proportionality. The stress distribution in the layered coating was studied and the safety factor was determined depending on the mechanical properties and thickness of the components. The example of simulation was considered for copper/nickel/chrome coating. In general, it was established that the limit state of a non-homogeneous coating could be determined not by the maximum equivalent stress, but by the minimum of the safety factor. . © 2024 The Authors.
