During simulating of the edge crack propagation in the flange of I - beam under the condition of pure bending, the maximum value of the SIF of the normal separation K I was recorded at each step of the crack length increase. The adequacy of the obtained results was controlled by the nature of the SIF values distribution along each of the six contours of the local mesh (Fig. 6). As you can see, the results of the SIF calculation completely coincide at contours 3 - 6, which, in turn, coincide well with the results of contour 2. The results of the calculation of contour 1 completely “fall out” from the general array of agreed data.

The results of the calculation of the SIF K I of the normal separation depending on the length of the crack L during its propagation in the I - beam profile are presented in Table 1.

Results comparison of simulation modeling of crack propagation in a thin - walled beam of I - beam profile with the results of analytical modeling by the proposed engineering method is presented in Fig. 7.
