presence of such Si-containing intermetallic layer may mitigate the interdiffusion of Fe and Al atoms, thereby enhancing corrosion resistance (Dangi et al. , 2018). These ternary phases have the potential to hinder the diffusion of atoms by serving as diffusion barriers and/or as inhibitors of the interfacial reaction that forms the η phase (Springer et al. , 2011; Zou et al. , 2021). However, the precise impact of Al-Si-Fe ternary phases remains a subject of debate, given the intricate interplay between interfacial and diffusional processes.
