As shown in Fig. 4, CL-shaped dowel subjected to combined bending and shear action were selected for analysis.

The meshing of all components was carried out using 8-node hexahedral linear reduced integral elements (C3D8R in ABAQUS). In addition, since crack tips can cause numerical singularities, the cell dimensions need to be kept consistent in specific areas in order to obtain reasonable results. The meshing of the CL-shaped dowel is shown in Fig. 5.
