Not the most effective, but very common and simple type of the adhesive connection is overlapping, and exactly such connections were considered in the work. Theoretical studies of overlapping adhesive joints with the acceptance of certain hypotheses show that the strength of the joint depends on the stiffness characteristics of the adhesive and the materials being joined, as well as on the geometric dimensions of the adhesive zone itself. Tensile tests performed on adhesive composite joints show a great influence on the strength of the adhesive zone geometry while the contact area of the parts remains unchanged. The experimental data are confirmed by the strain values obtained by digital image correlation method. © 2023 The Authors. Published by ELSEVIER B.V. Introduction Despite the fact that in the case of composites the material and the construction are created simultaneously, the joints cannot be avoided. One of the most common ways to join composite parts is with adhesives. Adhesives are also often used to create hybrid joints together with stitching, riveting, bolting, etc. Abstract The presented work is devoted to the study of the strength of adhesive joints of composite strips.
