This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 ) Peer-review under responsibility of the scientific committee of the MRDMS 2022 organizers Abstract This paper studies the deformation behavior of commercially pure aluminum 1050A during creep tests at room temperature. The plastic flow parameters at the stage of steady-state creep at different stress levels are determined. The kinetics of localized plasticity zones in the creep mode is studied using the digital image correlation method. The stress dependence of the spatial period of plastic strain localization is established. © 202 3 The Authors. Published by ELSEVIER B.V. Keywords: creep; digital image correlation; plastic strain localization; localization period; polycrystalline aluminum. 1. Introduction Owing to the high strength of structural aluminum alloys combined with their light weight, the range of aluminum products for automotive and aircraft industries, as well as for space applications expands annually. Many aluminum alloys exhibit mechanical instability during metal forming and under operating conditions. In industrially important ranges of loads, strain rates and test temperatures, mechanical instability is manifested as the so-called jerky flow induced by the repeated formation of macrolocalized deformation bands in metal (Kocks (1976), Yavari et al. (1981), Zhan et al. (2011), Shibkov et al. (2016), Yuzbekova et al. (2017)). Such bands are the cause of manufacturing defects: they reduce the surface quality of industrial products, impair formability, and lead to early 16th International Conference on Mechanics, Resource and Diagnostics of Materials and Structures (MRDMS 2022) A study of macroscopic plastic strain localization during creep of polycrystalline aluminum Mikhail Nadezhkin*, Svetlana Barannikova, Lev Zuev Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science SB RAS, 2/4, pr.
