The calculation of probability of fault-free operation according to the criterion of depth contact endurance is implemented and the tools of non-parametric statistics are applied. When calculating contact stresses, the twist angle caused by deformations of the shafts gear is taken into account. The reliability of the toothed wheel gear was evaluated using the developed technique. © 2023 The Authors. Published by ELSEVIER B.V. Introduction The cylindrical gears are an integral part of majority of technical systems, such as the final transmission of an electric vehicle, the top drive of the drill string, the drive of the lifting mechanism, etc. The failure occurrence of the toothed wheel gear can lead to failure of the entire technical system, reduce the life time or lead to the failure of other system elements, create an emergency. Therefore, an accurate assessment of the reliability of gears is so important for the modern world. The probability of safe operation is an indicator of reliability and determines the probability that the failure of the object will not occur within the specified operating time.
